I LIKE PICKING PEOPLE’S BRAINS AND ASKING QUESTIONS THAT ARE HELPFUL NOT ONLY TO ME BUT OTHERS AS WELL. THIS WEEK IS MISHA BANNER CREATIVE COACH, GRAPHIC DESIGNER, AND DOES BRANDING.
WITH THESE THREE QUESTIONS THEY’RE SIMPLE BUT DEEP.
THE PLAN IS TO DO THIS EVERY FRIDAY
1) What is the best advice you can give to someone starting out?
Technical advice: Always start with pen and paper. This the quickest and the easiest way to get your ideas out of your head. Don't put too much thought into the way your drawing looks at this point. (I littery draw stick figures) The idea is to get a big picture, put a game plan together before you get sucked into worrying about details.
I also like to start working in black and white, to focus on the layout. It is easy to add color later.
2) What things inspire your process?
Just as many other designs, I always look at design blogs and work of the best designers for inspiration and ideas.
But that a small part of it.
I love fashion, and beautifully put together outfits always give me ideas for graphic design. By the same reason, I put a lot of thought into the way I dress. When people can get I am a creative from 2 miles away, I somehow fell more creative.
I love driving through poor neighborhoods and trailer parks. This is inspiring in many ways. It reminds of where I came from ( I've lived in part of town, where heading gunshots was a normal thing.) It makes me angry - angry because so many wonderful people have to live like that. It makes me grateful - because of all the little things I have.
3) Who are three people you look up to that inspired you?
Tad Carpenter - an amazing illustrator, great speaker, very funny in person!
Steve Jobs - he didn't create Apple to make money, he did it to change the world.
Barack Obama - a truly great leader, who stood up for those who need it the most.
